FAQs
What can I expect during the first therapy session?
Our first session is mostly about getting to know you and understanding the bigger picture. I’ll ask about your background, family, upbringing, culture, and the experiences that have shaped you, along with what’s bringing you to therapy now. For some people we get through that history pretty quickly; for others it takes a little longer. From there, we’ll talk about what you want from therapy and start figuring out our goals together.
What if I’ve never been to therapy before?
You are definitely not alone! I’ve been many people’s first therapist over the years. There’s no expectation that you know what to say, how therapy “works,” or where to begin—that’s part of my job. The beginning is really about getting comfortable with each other, and I always welcome feedback about what feels helpful, what doesn’t, or what you need from me along the way.
How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes, and I usually recommend starting weekly. Meeting consistently tends to give us the most momentum and space to really work toward your goals. As things change, we can always adjust—some clients eventually move to every other week, monthly, or as-needed sessions.
How long will I be in therapy?
It really depends on you and what brings you in. Some people come to therapy for a specific challenge, work through it, and feel ready to move on within a few months. Others find ongoing therapy valuable for years. There’s no predetermined timeline—we’ll continue checking in about what you need and what feels useful to you.
What happens when I start feeling better?
That’s awesome—that’s the goal! Sometimes feeling better means you’re ready to space out sessions or eventually wrap up therapy. Other times, once the thing that brought you in isn’t taking up so much space, we finally have room to go deeper, work on something you’ve always wanted to explore, or create completely new goals. We’ll figure out together what feels most useful to you.
What is your fee? Do you offer a sliding scale?
My standard fee is $175 for a 50-minute session. I also reserve a limited number of reduced-fee spots for clients experiencing financial need. If cost is a barrier, please feel free to ask about current availability during your free consultation.
Do you accept insurance or offer out-of-network superbills?
My Florida practice is private pay. If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, I can provide a superbill for you to submit for possible reimbursement.
I also work with some insurance plans in Pennsylvania. If you're located in Pennsylvania and would like to use insurance, please reach out to ask about current coverage and availability.
Where can I be located for virtual therapy?
I currently provide virtual therapy to clients located in Pennsylvania and Florida. One of the things I love about virtual therapy is the flexibility—you can meet from home, your office, or another private place where you feel comfortable. As long as you’re physically located somewhere I’m authorized to practice at the time of our session, we can meet.
Do you work with couples, teens, or families?
My practice is focused on individual adults ages 18 and older. I don’t provide couples or family therapy, although there may be times when it’s helpful to invite a partner or family member into an individual session as part of your treatment. If you’re not sure whether what you’re looking for fits, feel free to ask.
